Antonio Marquez is a New York-based fashion designer who began his professional career 15 years ago while studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology.  Since then, he has worked for various apparel companies - gaining valuable design and technical experience from most of the different markets within the industry.

 

A former actor, his other passions are film and photography.  He was first introduced to the art and technique of photography as a teenager.  The camera has been another tool that allows him to express his vision of a world that merges the real with the surreal.

 

“Hints of classic decadence in combination with the modern are key elements in my work. Simultaneously, it is important to express art and fantasy without falling into the ‘fashion victim’ category.

 

In addition to designing, working as a professional patternmaker/draper has been one of the most valuable lessons in this business for me.  Being able to drape, draft patterns, cut, sew and fit is what gives a true understanding and appreciation of the craft – it makes you a better designer.  You can never stop learning in this profession.  Learning is one of the many things that keeps us stimulated and inspired.”
